A Children's Habitat Mission Statement Enriching minds and building community, guided by the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori.
A Children's Habitat Values Position At A Children's Habitat, the students, staff, and families are committed to:
The Montessori Method We strive to meet and exceed the highest Montessori standards set forth by the American Montessori Society (AMS), through organized and individualized instruction, multi-age classrooms, and carefully prepared learning environments. Children are met at their individual ability levels and are thoughtfully challenged to meet their next milestones.
Joyful Learning Curiosity and joy for learning are habits cultivated by A Children's Habitat. Adults model joyful, lifelong learning through ongoing professional development and family education.
Community Inspired by a spirit of community and the power of collective talents, we focus efforts on building relationships and working with one another. Children learn to discover their individual gifts and "cosmic tasks," and apply those to leadership roles and in service to others. Active volunteerism among families is a key component to our community building.
Diversity Individuals are celebrated and appreciated for their unique qualities, perspectives, and backgrounds. We learn to work together and in peace, and we embrace and strive for diversity of all forms.
Peace Education Kindness, empathy, and peaceful conflict resolution comprise and inform both our explicit and implicit curriculum. Peaceful exchange is modeled through grace and courtesy, and honest and compassionate communication.
Stewardship Just as we care for one another, we care for our broader social and natural worlds. We use our classrooms (both indoor and outdoor) as microcosms to more fully understand our role in environmental stewardship and global citizenship. Students take their gifts of learning and compassion from A Children's Habitat to go forward and create a better world than they first entered.
